Visual Literacy Timeline Verbal Explanation
Visual Literacy to me is using images and symbols to communicate an idea as a form of language.
Circa 29000 – The earliest known cave drawings were discovered in Europe and dated back to 32000 years ago.
1968 – John Debes coins the phrase Visual Literacy.
1969 – The first International Visual Literacy Association meeting takes place
1989 – Joel Benedict establishes the Visual Literacy Collection at the Arizona State University
2001 – Triennial Conferences are established Internationally
2008 – Modern day Scholars continue to study Visual Literacy
